Is there a hosted version? No. Gray is self-host only — that’s the privacy model, not a missing feature.

Do I need to be technical? You need to run one install script on a Linux box and install Tailscale on your phone. If you can rent a VPS, you’re qualified.

Which models does it use? Whatever is on your box — a logged-in Claude CLI is the zero-config default; API keys and other providers via env. Models & keys.

What does it cost to run? Your box (a $5 VPS is plenty for the server itself) and your own model usage. Gray adds no per-token charges. Plan options live in the app.

Android? Yes — Gray ships on both iPhone and Android.

What happens if my box dies? Restore the vault + .env onto a new box and reconnect — Data & backups.

Can Gray act without asking? Reads, yes. Consequential actions stop at an approval gate enforced on the box.
